Visual Literacy!

In Chapter Ten we learned about visual literacy. Visual literacy is when someone has the ability to interrupt through an image the importance and awareness of visual communication. In my reading, I learned some important steps on how to examine the rhetorical context of a photo. For example, the photographers context and purpose for making a photo and the original context and cultural context. Also, I learned how one can examine photos better to understand what they are portraying to their audiences. One can understand a photo by looking at the people, lighting, framing ,repetition and many more details in the photo.

After reading about visual literacy, it made me think about how prevalent visual literacy is in our everyday walk of life. We look at so many different photographs every day on social media, news, television and many more visual outlets. Photos and imagery are used more than any other time in history due to all the media and social media outlets that are running twenty-four hours a day. Moreover, being able to interrupt, absorb, and understand the information and evidence portrayed in an image correctly is vital in visual communication.
